Typical applications

Product details

Falcon Hex Pins are an innovative fastener providing significantly greater pullout resistance than typical straight pins or staples. Available in configurations specialized for different soil types, Falcon Hex Pins improve pullout performance in soft or sandy soils, compact cohesive soils, and hard rocky soils. This allows for better tie-down of erosion control materials, guy wires, strapping, and more across a wide range of industry applications. Galvanized for long life and more durable than hand-driven fasteners, Falcon Hex Pins are more reliable and provide greater confidence in blanket or TRM tie-down.

Variants and applications. Falcon Hex Pins come in four variants, each with multiple length configurations. HS-8 and HS-12 are designed for loose soils (S for soft, sandy, or silty). HC-8 and HC-12 are optimized for compact, cohesive, and heavy clay soils. HR-8 and HR-12 are suitable for hard, rocky soils. HP-8 and HP-12 are designed for quick installation of fabrics and mats.

Installation. Falcon Hex Pins install using a cordless hand drill with our custom installation chuck (preferred) or a standard 1.5-inch hex socket.

  1. Install the custom chuck or a 1.5-inch hex socket into a hand drill.
  2. Place the Falcon Hex Pin into the socket. Ensure no debris is on the pin before installing.
  3. Place the end of the Falcon Hex Pin through the erosion control matting before engaging the drill. Install the pin with slight pressure until the pin is fully installed.
  4. A properly installed Falcon Hex Pin will impart a slight depression on the erosion control matting. If using lightweight netting, the edge may need to be held to prevent twisting.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need special machinery to install Falcon Hex Pins?

You can install these pins quickly using a standard cordless hand drill with a 1.5″ hex socket adapter, or with our custom chuck (preferred). It eliminates manual hammering and significantly increases installation speed.

How do these compare to traditional U-shaped landscape staples?

Standard staples rely solely on friction and can be pulled out by wind, water, or soil expansion. Falcon Hex Pins use a coil design that physically locks into the soil, providing up to ten times more pullout resistance.

Can these be used in sandy or rocky soil?

Yes. The coil design is specifically engineered to thread into the ground, and Falcon Hex Pins offer a coil type designed to perform well in a variety of standard soil profiles.

Are these pins removable?

While designed as permanent anchors for erosion control mats, they can be backed out using the same drill and socket setup, making them a good option for temporary projects requiring site remediation.
