MKB High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats (HPTRMs) Permanent Rolled Erosion Control Products for the highest level of vegetated resistance to hydraulic stresses
When site conditions demand the highest level of performance, our high-performance TRMs provide unparalleled durability. These systems combine advanced matting technology with vegetation for robust solution for severe erosion challenges. Designed to perform where traditional methods fail, our high-performance systems offer maximum protection for your most sensitive or demanding projects.
MKB woven HPTRMs have a continuous and homogenous 3-D structure, proving superior resistance to hydraulic stresses and environmental degradation. They offer greater strength at low strain, which means mobilizing the HPTRM strength faster, maintaining dimension and stability under the most extreme conditions and loads. This technology provides a sensible choice for a cost-effective, technically proven, permanent, environmentally sensitive, reinforced vegetative solution to traditional hard armor alternatives.
Why Choose MKB High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats (HPTRMs)?
Maximum Shear Thresholds

Frequently asked questions
An HPTRM (High-Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat) is a three-dimensional, non-degradable synthetic matrix engineered to provide a significantly higher level of structural reinforcement than standard TRMs. While standard TRMs are designed for moderate slopes and channels, HPTRMs are built for extreme hydraulic conditions, offering superior tensile strength, higher shear stress resistance, and greater long-term durability in critical applications like dam embankments and spillways.
Yes. HPTRMs are widely used as “green” alternatives to hard armor systems like riprap or concrete paving. They provide a comparable shear stress threshold while promoting natural vegetation, which improves water quality, lowers installation costs, and enhances the aesthetic value of the site. They are essentially designed to provide the performance of hard armor with the benefits of a living, breathing ecosystem.
HPTRMs are specifically engineered to create a reinforced matrix to reinforce soils and vegetation. During high-velocity flow events, the mat prevents soil particles from being displaced, while the root system provides deeper stability. This dual-layer protection allows the vegetation to withstand shear stresses that would normally wash away soil and destroy a standard turf installation.
Because HPTRMs are constructed from high-strength, UV-stabilized synthetic materials, they are designed for a permanent service life (Industry defined as 25+ years). When installed correctly and properly vegetated, the HPTRM provides long-term structural integrity that will remain functional for decades.
Yes, the installation of HPTRMs is more rigorous. Because they are designed for high-stress environments, they often require precise trenching, specific overlapping patterns, and a higher density of anchoring devices (such as heavy-duty pins or percussion anchors) to ensure the system remains in intimate contact with the subgrade. We provide technical installation guides to ensure your project meets manufacturer specifications.
