MKB Turf Reinforcement Mats Permanent Solutions when Vegetation alone isn’t enough
Engineered Stability for Modern Infrastructure. When site conditions exceed the capabilities of degradable erosion control blankets, our Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs) provide the necessary structural backbone. Designed to reinforce vegetation and stabilize soil in high-flow and high-slope environments, these mats transform natural green spaces into permanent, reinforced assets.
MKB Turf Reinforcement Mats are categorized into three distinct types, each offering advantages in specific site applications.
Why Choose MKB Turf Reinforcement Mats?
The Gold Standard in Permanent Erosion Protection
VMAX® Composite TRMs are the industry-leading solution for high-velocity channels and severe slope applications. By integrating a UV stabilized, high-strength, three-dimensional net structure with a fiber matrix material, these composite systems offer unparalleled shear stress performance while providing vegetative establishment and reinforcement benefits. They are specifically engineered to provide the performance of hard armor (like concrete or riprap) with the aesthetic and environmental benefits of a living, vegetated surface.
Double Net Poly-Fiber TRMs
Designed for professional contractors who require a balance of strength and ease of installation, our Double Net Poly-Fiber TRMs offer high-level soil retention for both slope and channel projects. These mats feature two layers of high-strength netting encapsulating a synthetic fiber matrix, providing immediate soil protection and excellent root entanglement. The result is a secure, long-term stabilization system that adapts perfectly to diverse soil conditions.
Triple Net TRMs
When your project faces intense environmental stressors, Triple Net TRMs provide the structural redundancy you need. By adding a third layer of reinforcement, these mats offer enhanced mechanical anchoring and structural integrity. This design ensures the mat remains securely pinned against the subgrade, even under heavy water flow or shifting ground conditions, facilitating deep-root development for permanent soil stabilization.
Typical applications
- High-flow channels
- Streambanks
- Steep slope stabilization
- Hard Armor alternative

Frequently asked questions
You should opt for a Composite TRM (like VMAX) when your calculated shear stress exceeds the threshold of standard vegetation and lighter-weight mats. These systems are designed for critical hydraulic infrastructure where failure is not an option. Consider using the ECMDS software to help select a project site specific design.
Yes. All three categories are constructed from non-degradable, UV-stabilized synthetic netting materials. Once vegetation is established, the mat remains in place as a permanent, reinforced part of the landscape.
Yes, but the key is the anchoring system. We recommend pairing these TRMs with appropriate fasteners (such as Falcon Hex Pins) to ensure the mat remains in intimate contact with the soil, regardless of your site’s specific texture or compaction
